                          Ven.Tulku Popa's Other Projects

                          our last year  medicinal Plantation

Reforestation and Special Purpose Plantation: According to one of the resident Togdens (meditation masters) who is also a Tibetan doctor, there are more than 25 varieties of medicinal herbs and trees herbs that grow indigenously in the Tashi Jong area. As some species are being threatened by extinction, it is wished to reverse this situation by taking action as soon as possible. If this species were newly planted in sufficient numbers, the harvested plants constituents could be used for the making of Tibetan medicines. The fruits of such initiatives would also serve as an important resource for the training of new traditional doctors. Other purposes of this reforestation are growing plants that can be used for incense manufacturing and to provide income to the local people with valuable species. Lastly, this project also aims to restore the natural balance and former beauty of Tashi Jong.

Education

The intention is to evolve and nurture learning spaces appropriate to the communities needs. FNM is working towards Getting a library installed within the village

  • Where to apply for government and private specific procedures.

  • How to apply for government aids for farmers.

  • Information on marriage procedures, inheritance certificates, legal aspects of common situations.

  • This is a non-exhaustive list of the many activities being performed by our Information Center

                                                Health Initiatives
We have initiated a training program for members of the local community on the subject of indigenous plants and traditional Tibetan medicinal practices. The trainees will later participate in an internship. It is also planned to pass down lineage knowledge and skills to other members of the monastic community. This will benefit the health of the community at large, who at present mainly utilize allopathic medicine. Eye camps and dental camps providing specialized care to the local communities have been conducted with great success

Reforestation Land Other Projects

Other Projects The land, yet to be purchased for reforestation, is also planned to be the site for much needed retreat houses for both monks and visitors of Tashi Jong. Small and simple buildings are to be constructed adjacent to the replanted trees and herbs, away from the many distractions of the village. A home for elderly lay residents is needed for those who have no family or other support. A school for very young children is also on the agenda.
